Politics and Reading
From Grade One to Twelve
byThomas Leonard
Trained
Meticulously restrained
Individualism not entertained
Non conformers cleverly detained
Countless, historically biased books maintained
Through grades social mobility supposedly gained
Futures commonly racially, culturally, or economically preordained
Privatization, elitists' favorite tool to keep it socially retained
Averted sports funds, teachers pets, popularity contests, school wretchedly stained
Dirty school boards and teachers, insane parents, our minds strained
Jocks, preppies, nerds, cheerleaders, skaters, druggies, dropouts, etc., all equally pained
Thought to be growing, when in reality, shrinking into the role ingrained
